Abstract

This comprehensive review examines recent advancements in cardiovascular interventions and their efficacy among South Asian diaspora populations in North America. Through a systematic analysis of clinical data from 2014-2024, we evaluate procedural outcomes, cultural considerations in treatment approaches, and healthcare accessibility disparities.

Our findings indicate significant progress in minimally invasive techniques, with particular success in percutaneous coronary interventions among Bangladeshi-American patients. However, persistent disparities in post-procedure care and follow-up highlight the need for culturally competent healthcare delivery models.

1. Introduction

Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of mortality among South Asian populations worldwide, with distinct epidemiological patterns observed in diaspora communities. The Bangladeshi-American population, in particular, exhibits unique risk profiles and treatment response patterns that warrant specialized investigation.

Over the past decade, technological advancements in cardiovascular interventions have transformed treatment paradigms. This review synthesizes evidence from multicenter studies across North America to evaluate the efficacy and accessibility of these interventions within Bangladeshi-origin communities.

2. Methods

We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies published between January 2014 and December 2024. The search encompassed multiple databases including PubMed, Scopus, and EMBASE, using predefined search terms related to cardiovascular interventions and South Asian populations.

3. Results

Our analysis included 42 studies comprising 15,842 participants. Key findings revealed significant improvements in procedural success rates and reduced complication rates over the study period.

Intervention Type Success Rate (%) Complication Rate (%) Follow-up Adherence
PCI 94.2 2.1 85%
CABG 96.8 3.4 78%
TAVR 92.5 4.2 82%

4. Discussion

The findings demonstrate remarkable progress in cardiovascular care for South Asian populations in North America. However, several challenges persist, particularly in the realm of cultural competence and healthcare accessibility.

Strengths

  • • High procedural success rates
  • • Improved technology adoption
  • • Growing research focus

Challenges

  • • Follow-up adherence gaps
  • • Cultural barriers in care
  • • Access disparities

Excellent review of current practices. The cultural considerations section is particularly insightful for clinical practice.
